FAI Rules Modifications

We invite all participating pilots to read carefully the rules of the Championship. Play fair, play by the rules.

1. Model general specifications

Tramp HV – EU (Immersion RC) VTX is the official video transmitter that will be used for this season. The small TNR board MUST be placed on the quad so that it is accessible by the race marshall at anytime. If the TNR board is not connected, the pilot can’t start to fly.

1.2 Motorization

  • OPEN serie : 4S max (17,0 volts)
  • STARTER serie = 3S max (12,75 vots)

1.3 Propellers

  • OPEN serie : 6 inches max
  • STARTER serie = 5 inches max

2. Racing circuit

2.4 AirGates

  • The circuit should include 3 to 15 airgates
  • The maximum opening size of airgates are : – width = 3.5 m – Height = 2.5 m. Such biggest airgates may be used to define a curve.
  • Less than 10 meters length straight line may be used before any gates in agreement with the Sportive Director (AAM/VML)

2.7 Other points

  • If the circuit is made public, it would be done at least the day before the contest.

5. Contest organisation

Qualification stages to final stage are not an obligation yet if all pilots could fly all around the day according to the following rules bellow **

5.1 Practice flights

  • Practice flights are not organised yet at the beginning of the event.
  • If the circuit is available and accessible the day before the contest, any pilot may fly some practice runs only if the Sportive Director or the club responsible agree.
  • The internal club rules as well for fly and security must be followed by the pilot. If they aren’t, its practice runs may be forbidden.

5.4 Qualification stage

There is no qualification stage anymore. Pilots will fly all around the day as defined bellow **

** All day flying stages at Belgian F3U Championship 2017

1. Pilots are mixed by 4 in each heat, as well in Open as in Starter serie.

2. Pilots will fly a number of laps determined by the Sportive Director (or the Race Director). Laps will be determined to have a flying time of around 2 minutes. – The final time is take into account for each pilot. – When the first heat have been flown by each pilot, the recorded time will determine a temporary ranking. – If the pilot crashed, the penalty default result will be 4’00 6’00. – If the pilot doesn’t finished the allowed turns after flying 3’00 4’00, the default result will be 3’00 4’00.

3. After 4 completed heats, a global temporary ranking is determined in each category (Open and Starter) This ranking will summarize the 2 best timed results. This means that each pilot may crashed one time or have one bad result.

4. A new repartition of the pilots may be organized according to the temporary ranking (heats 1 to 3).

5. When 3 new completed heats (4 to 6) are flown, a new temporary ranking is determined again in each category (Open and Starter) – The same penalties (as determined at §2.) and the worst of the 3 all flown heats is deleted. – The sum of the 2 best heats (4 to 6) + the previous 2 best heats (1 to 3) according to the table here bellow will give the new temporary ranking.

6. A 2nd repartition of the pilots will be organized according to the new temporary ranking (best 2 heats 1 to 3 + best 2 heat 4 to 6).

7. These heats and organization will continue on the same rules every 3 completed heats till the end of the day. In case of crashes, please see points 6.3, 6.4 and 6.5 of FAI rules (+ additional datas here bellow)

Example :

  • After each heat, the best time between all pilots of each Open and Starter serie equal to 100. The 2nd will receive ratio between its final time and the 100, etc.
  • The sum of each 2 best heats by group of 3 are summarized to have a temporaty ranking (exception see 9.)

Final Ranking of the Day

  • At the end of the day, all the best counted heats by pilot are summarized to obtain the final total of the day.
  • One extra point will be added for the fasted heat in each Open and Starter serie.
  • The best score in each Open and Starter serie equal to 100. The 2nd will receive ratio between its final total and the 100, etc …
  • We obtain the final ranking of the day (exception see 9.)

Final Ranking of the Season

  • The season ranking is the sum of all the points/pilot obtained after each round.
  • The 4 worst results of the season are deleted to obtain the final ranking.
  • In case of ex aequo, the deleted value is take into account ; the bigger the best ranking.
  • Winner in Starter serie must fly in Open serie on the next year.
  • Only 3 best Open pilots are qualified for the next World Championship. If one of them can’t go on, the 4th if selected, etc.

6. Flight occurrences

6.1 Faults and penalties

  • In case an air gate or an obstacle that needs to be crossed is not effectively crossed, the pilot may try to execute a manoeuvre to cross the air gate or the obstacle again. If during this manoeuvre the pilot has a collision with another model, he will be disqualified and his result for that flight will not be validated and get the default penalty of 4’00 6’00.
  • If the pilot does not cross an air gate or an obstacle to be crossed, penalty is defined as follow :
  • – 1st fault: 10 seconds. – 2nd fault: 20 seconds (in addition to the 1st time penalty). – 3rd fault: 30 seconds (in addition to the previous time penalties). – 4th fault: Maximum default results is applied => 4’00 6’00 and pilot is disqualified for the heat and must land.
  • In case the pilot fly out of the track, or in a dangerous way, he will be disqualified. Penality would be 10’00.

6.4 Video issues

  • Pilot who doesn’t want to be connected to the available ground station can’t ask any reflight for video-related issues.
  • If the material is provided by the organizer, a reflight can only be granted if it is proved that the problem is caused by an identifiable external cause.
  • In any cases, the competitor can’t turn against the organizer.

6.5 Reflight

The following additional case is taken into account for the Belgian F3U.

Championship only :

  • When collisions between models occur and that one of them crash, both of the concerned pilots will be disqualified.
  • A reflight will be organized at the end of the running heat in order to obtain a flying time.
  • If a new collision happens during this reflight, both pilots will obtain the maximum default results => 4’00 6’00.

7. Helper

  • The job the helper is not to give flying instructions to the pilot because this may occur disturbances for the other pilots next to him.
  • The judge may ask to the helper to stop this. If the helper doesn’t follow the judge’s instructions, he may disqualify the pilot.

8. Official

8.3 Judge

  • Each FPV pilot is accompagnied by a judge standing next or behind him. The judge is done by a dedicated team or the pilot who will fly the next heat.
  • In any case it is remarked that the judge has an uncorrect use of the timing system by stopping to early the chronometer for example, both pilot (judge AND the concerned pilot) are disqualified from the flying heat and/or the contest (according to the race director decision).

9. Interruption of the contest

  • In case of the race must be interrupted for any reasons : – if the competition can’t restart, only the completed heats are take into account for the final ranking of the day. – the worst heat of each pilot is scrapped after each 3 completed rounds to summarize the 2 best completed heats – completed heats 1 to 3 => 2 best results (1) – completed heats 4 to 6 => 2 best results (2) – completed heats 7 to 9 => 2 best results (3) => Results = (1) + (2) + (3)
  • If there is no 3 completed heats: – heats 1 & 2 completed and heat 3 not finished for all pilots => only heats 1 & 2 are summarized – heats 4 & 5 completed and heat 6 not finished for all pilots => only heats 4 & 5 are summarized. => In this 2nd case, 2 best heats (1 to 3) + heat 4 & 5 will give the final ranking according to the table :
